The sawn end cut of a massive log reveals a visual record of the fallen tree’s long life. Attracted to circular shapes in nature, I discovered a plethora of abstract rounds at a local sawmill. Although I was saddened that their mighty lives had ended as giants in the forest, I hoped to honour and celebrate their beauty in art. This log was 30” in diameter, mounted on legs, with a target painted on the surface, transformed into a lumberman’s dartboard.
