Final Approach

While at first possibly mundane, we can infer so much from the undersides of the aircraft that fly around our world. Where they've been and where they're going. How these machines work and how they are maintained (or not maintained!). The marvels created by modern engineering that allow these enormous beasts to fly so easily through the air. Together these pieces make for not only an interesting story, but also a beautiful representation of something we take for granted every time we fly.

These images were all created by standing underneath the final approach paths of major international airports and timing individual images as the planes race overhead at over 150 miles per hour. With their landing gear extended and the aircraft less than 100 feet above, the detail and patterns that emerge are truly fascinating.
